413 Cab Office

After joining the Cassina Pro Collection as part of the furnishings for the most prestigious hotels and luxury restaurants, executive board rooms and congress centres, the Cab chair – the first chair in the world to feature a self-supporting saddle-hide structure – is now available in three styles designed specifically for the office: swivel, reclinable and with armrests, to ensure comfort and support. The Cab Office Executive version, with high backrest and headrest cushion, and two versions with low backrest, Conference and Conference Maxi (with a more ample seat) maintain the same distinctive details as the original 1977 design, starting with the saddle-hide, meticulously crafted and fit like a glove to the frame. Available in a selection of deep colours – black, Bulgarian red, natural, taupe and brown – in a saddle-hide offered exclusively for the Cassina Pro Collection, the armchairs have a 5-spoke cast-aluminium base with polished brushed finish or painted black, to match the casters. They are equipped with a lever that allows a slight tilt of the backrest and seat as well as seat-height adjustment, to ensure a greater level of comfort.

699 Superleggera

A highlight of Cassina’s catalogue since 1957, the Superleggera represents the perfect outcome between the creative imagination of the architect Gio Ponti, and Cassina’s manufacturing excellence, an undisputed icon that is both of-the-moment and pays tribute to traditional artisanal skills. Superleggera demonstrates the constructive prowess of the MedaMade craftsmen: the challenge they faced, of making an extra-light chair, was overcome with the Superleggera’s legs having a cross-section of just eighteen millimetres, the whole weighing a mere 1,700 grams! While the frame exploits the inherent lightness and flexibility of ashwood, the seat surround is in beech, which is more close-grained and stronger. The wood parts are created by machine, and hand-finished, glue being applied with a brush, the excess being wiped off, and the seat being hand-woven. Thus do crafts expertise and industrial innovation come together in what we could call a “prime object”, informed by the chair-making traditions of Chiavari, in Liguria, northern Italy. The Superleggera is available both in the classic version or with coloured legs, as well as with a padded seat.

7 Fauteuil tournant, durable

An icon with an aptitude for versatility and functionality, designed in 1927 by Charlotte Perriand for her Paris atelier in Place Saint-Sulpice.
The design was first exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs in 1928 and then at the Salon d’Automne in 1929, and is now part of the Le Corbusier®, Pierre Jeanneret®, Charlotte Perriand® Collection. Cassina introduced this icon for the first time in 1978 and, in 2023, reissued it with an eco-minded spirit. The padding in the armchair was developed using circular materials: recycled PET wadding and, for the foam parts, polyurethane with a percentage of polyols derived from biological sources. The structure, in trivalent chrome-plated steel, is available with polished or painted finish while the upholstery is in
leather or fabric.

8 Tabouret tournant, durable

The Tabouret tournant stool is a version of the swivel armchair designed in 1927 by Charlotte Perriand for her atelier and was also part of the group of furnishings exhibited at the Salon d’Automne in 1929. As part of the Le Corbusier®, Pierre Jeanneret®, Charlotte Perriand® Collection, its iconic shape and versatility reflect the desire to simplify mass production by employing common elements. Cassina introduced it for the first time in 1978 and re-issued it, with an eye to circularity, in 2023. The padding was developed using circular materials: recycled PET wadding and, for the foam parts, polyurethane with a percentage of polyols derived from biological sources. Cab 412

“This was a new kind of chair, constructed totally out of leather, much cloned since then.” Thus Mario Bellini describes Cab, a best-seller that he designed in the 1970s, which is now a signature piece in Cassina’s I Contemporanei collection. Cab was the first-ever chair to feature a free-standing leather structure, inspired by how our skin fits over our skeleton. The upholstery consists of twenty-one pieces of saddle leather. They undergo twenty-two discrete procedures, again by hand. The pieces are sewn together only when their outer edges have been trimmed to ensure a perfect fit. Once assembled, the cover is attached to the chair’s steel skeleton and held in place by means of a zipper fastening, as in a bespoke tailored garment. Today this model adapts and expands to meet contemporary needs. It is now available an XL model, 5cm deeper, and a Baby version, made with the same careful craftsmanship. Also available are new Plus saddle leathers in pure aniline, and some versions with a gradient effect by hand on a natural basis.

Committee

The Indian city of Chandigarh – capital of the Punjab and utopian model of a modernistic avant-garde urban master plan created in the 1950s – continues to wield its charm and cultural fascination and to fuel the etymological research of Cassina in its stewardship of the designer’s plans. Designed specifically by Le Corbusier and his cousin, Pierre Jeanneret, to furnish the spaces in the grand political and public buildings, the pieces have been reinterpreted, while staying true to the original project. Thus, the Committee Chair now becomes part of the Hommage à Pierre Jeanneret tribute collection. Featuring restrained, elegant lines – and the iconic upside-down V-shaped lateral supports – the Committee Chair is presented in its original version with armrests, and in a new interpretation without armrests, for a more versatile fit in both the living and dining rooms. The seat structure, available in the historic teak version and in natural oak or oak stained black, blends harmoniously with the soft upholstered parts for comfortable, supported seating. Available in fabric or leather, the upholstery is removable to facilitate replacement of the material around the armrests. Each piece in the collection is the utmost expression of the high quality and excellence that distinguish Cassina products by virtue of the “Hommage à Pierre Jeanneret” logo on the wood structure as well as the Cassina label sewn onto the back side of the backrest.

Doron Hotel

The Doron Hotel armchair was designed in 1947 by Charlotte Perriand, a real mountain lover, for the winter sports resort of Méribel Les Allues and for Hôtel Doron, one of the first chalet-hotels, in the same location. The French designer always had a special and profound relationship with nature; in fact, she was one of the first to explore the relationship between man and his surrounding environment, seeking natural materials to use in her projects. Comfortable, textural and pleasant to the touch, the Doron Hotel armchair comes in the outdoor version as well. It can be paired with Charlotte Perriand’s Table à Plateau Interchangeable.

Dudet

The small armchair is very evocative and strongly references 1970s design. Dudet is a small architecture defined by three individual padded elements: a seat cushion and two tubes that fluidly design its legs, armrests and backrest in a continuous line. The soft and comfortable appearance of the Dudet armchair strikes immediately and, under its welcoming curves, it has a conscious soul thanks to the fact that its elements can be easily disassembled. An innovative system that, with a view to circularity, allows its metal core to be separated from the polyurethane foam padding made with a percentage of polyols deriving from biological sources. This facilitates both the disposal of the separate pieces and the recycling of its noble materials like its steel core.

Eve

Produced by Cassina in both a metal and wood frame, with the same shape changing its personality, depending on which frame material used, the back and the seat always being leather. The simple geometry of the structure is warmer and closer to nature in the walnut or ashwood, and is thus ideal for the home environment. The chair’s lines become more slender and impactful in the cast aluminium option: here the ideal setting is the office or corporate space. The innovative approach used to assemble the leather sections reveals a clever configuration of cuts and folds that highlight the company’s crafts capabilities. The upholstery is an “envelope” into which slips the frame, no stitching in sight. Meticulous attention has been paid to the chair’s functional aspects, primarily through the use of a thermoformed plastic shell coupled with a thin layer of polyurethane. Meantime, the rounded seat enhances the feeling that Eve is a comfortable chair. It is now available also with the new Plus saddle leather and with a hand-shaded effect on natural basis
